IT Sector Leads the Pack as Pakistan Registers 5,003 New Companies in October

Pakistan’s corporate sector continued to expand in October as the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) registered 5,003 new companies during the month. The latest registrations brought the country’s total number of registered companies to 321,794, reflecting continued interest in business formation and entrepreneurship.

According to the SECP, 99.9 percent of the newly registered companies completed their registration process through the online system. The figures highlight the growing use of digital services for business incorporation and the increasing accessibility of company registration procedures.

The information technology sector emerged as the leading contributor to new company registrations, reflecting the growing interest in technology-based businesses and digital entrepreneurship in Pakistan.

The registration figures also showed that private limited companies accounted for 55.4 percent of the newly established businesses. Meanwhile, single member companies represented 41.6 percent of the total registrations.

These figures indicate that entrepreneurs are increasingly choosing formal business structures to establish their operations. Private limited companies provide a framework for businesses with multiple shareholders, while single member companies allow individual entrepreneurs to operate through a registered corporate entity.

Punjab recorded the highest number of new company registrations during October, with 2,663 businesses joining the corporate registry. Islamabad ranked second with 934 registrations, followed by Sindh with 751 newly registered companies.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa recorded 382 new registrations, while Gilgit-Baltistan registered 162 companies. Balochistan accounted for another 111 newly established businesses.

The regional figures show that Punjab maintained the largest share of new company formations during the reporting period. Islamabad also recorded substantial activity, while Sindh continued to contribute to the country’s expanding corporate landscape.

The strong presence of the IT sector is particularly significant as Pakistan continues to develop its digital economy. Technology companies, software development businesses, digital service providers, and other IT-related ventures are creating opportunities for entrepreneurs seeking to enter local and international markets.

The expansion of technology-based businesses also supports demand for skilled professionals, including software developers, digital marketers, cybersecurity specialists, and other technology workers.

Digital registration has played an important role in simplifying the process of establishing companies. With almost all new registrations completed online, entrepreneurs can access incorporation services without relying heavily on traditional paper-based procedures.

The SECP’s digital registration system is designed to make company formation more accessible and efficient. Greater use of online services can also reduce administrative delays and improve convenience for individuals looking to formalize their business activities.

The increase in registered companies is an important indicator of corporate activity, although registration figures alone do not necessarily reflect business survival, investment levels, employment creation, or actual economic output.

Nevertheless, the addition of 5,003 companies in a single month demonstrates continued interest in establishing formal businesses across different sectors and regions of Pakistan.

As the country’s digital economy develops and entrepreneurship gains momentum, the growth of registered companies could contribute to a broader corporate base. The latest SECP figures provide another indication of business activity in Pakistan, with the IT sector playing a prominent role in new company formation.
