The government of Pakistan has announced a fresh adjustment in fuel prices, increasing the price of petrol by one rupee per litre. The new price of petrol now stands at Rs253.63 per litre, up from the previous Rs252.63.
Diesel Prices Remain Stable
The official notification issued states that there will be no change in diesel rates. Diesel continues to be priced at Rs254.64 per litre across the country. This decision to leave diesel prices unchanged comes as a slight relief to industries and businesses heavily reliant on diesel transportation.
Immediate Implementation of New Rates
The revised petrol price has been implemented immediately, following the issuance of the notification. Consumers are expected to adjust their budgets accordingly to accommodate the small increase in transportation costs.
Recent History of Petrol Price Adjustments
Earlier this month, on May 16, 2025, the government had decided to keep petrol prices steady for the next two weeks. Petrol remained at Rs252.63 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel was reduced by Rs2 per litre, setting it at Rs254.64 per litre.
On April 30, a previous government revision had reduced both petrol and diesel rates by Rs2 per litre each. Petrol was priced at Rs252.63 per litre, and diesel at Rs256.64 per litre.
However, April 15 saw Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif clarify that fuel prices would not be reduced further. He stated that any benefits from declining global oil prices would be diverted towards development projects designed to uplift the masses.
Impact on Daily Life
The modest rise in petrol prices is expected to slightly affect daily commuting and transportation costs for individuals. Although the increase is minor, it highlights the ongoing balancing act between global market fluctuations and domestic economic policies.
