The Punjab government has allocated Rs. 520 million to develop infrastructure and improve tourism in Murree and Galyat, focusing on the winter season. This move aims to attract more tourists by enhancing road safety, addressing water shortages, and mitigating landslide risks.
A major part of the plan involves improving road access to these regions, with expanded roads and efficient snow removal services to prevent disruptions caused by heavy snowfall. In Galyat, road expansions are a key focus to ensure tourists can navigate the region safely during the winter months.
The project also aims to secure landslide-prone areas, which are particularly dangerous during winter when snow and ice can cause landslides. The government is working on fortifying these zones to prevent accidents and ensure a safe environment for tourists.
Water Supply Projects to Enhance Tourist Experience
Water shortages have been a longstanding issue in Murree and Galyat, especially during peak tourist seasons. The Punjab government plans to address this by developing new water supply systems and building storage tanks to ensure a steady water supply for both tourists and residents.
Different government authorities have been assigned responsibilities for the successful execution of the project. The Murree district administration will manage snow removal and road cleaning within Punjab’s boundaries, while the Galyat Development Authority will oversee road maintenance and drinking water supply in areas under Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
To further improve connectivity, roads linking Punjab, Azad Kashmir, and Galyat will be upgraded, making it easier for tourists to access these destinations and enjoy their winter vacations.
