The Pink Shirt, a web series starring Sajal Aly and Wahaj Ali, is set to premiere at the South by Southwest Film Festival 2023 Sydney (SXSW) on October 16th. The show is the only South Asian web series selected for the festival this year.
The Pink Shirt is a collaboration between Applause Entertainment and Zee’s Zindagi, and is the second project from the two studios. The show is directed by Kashif Nisar and written by Bee Gul.
The show is a “riveting take on modern-day relationships, their love, challenges, and struggles in a raw & real way.” It follows the journey of Sophia (Sajal Aly) and Umer (Wahaj Ali), who are both stuck in toxic relationships. When they meet, they discover an “alluring intensity” and embark on a “transformative journey towards love that mends them as people.”
Lead actor Sajal Aly and her co-actor Wahaj Ali express their excitement about the show and their roles. Director Kashif Nisar highlights the significance of the project and its potential to resonate with audiences worldwide. Chief Creative Officer (Special Projects) Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd., Shailja Kejriwal, reflects on this significant milestone and their commitment to bringing diverse narratives to a global stage. Writer Bee Gul adds her thoughts on the intention behind the story and her gratitude for the opportunity to share it with a global audience.
The SXSW festival is a major annual event that celebrates cinema, interactive media, music, and more. It will be making its debut in Sydney this year.
