Ram Gopal Varma’s Controversial Take on Allu Arjun’s Arrest
Veteran filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has sparked a debate by suggesting that the arrest of South Indian superstar Allu Arjun was a calculated publicity stunt to boost the box office collections of Pushpa 2: The Rule. The claims arose after Arjun was briefly detained following a tragic incident during the film’s screening in Hyderabad.
Tragedy at Sandhya Theatre: What Happened?
On the eve of the global release of Pushpa 2, Arjun made a surprise appearance at Sandhya Theatre, Hyderabad, where chaos ensued despite heavy police security. A stampede-like situation resulted in the death of a woman, Revathi, while her nine-year-old son, Sri Tej, was hospitalized.
The next day, Arjun was arrested by Chikkadapally police and placed in judicial custody for 14 days. However, the Telangana High Court granted him interim bail within hours, fueling speculations about the motives behind his arrest.
Ram Gopal Varma’s Fiery Remarks on X
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Ram Gopal Varma accused Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of orchestrating the arrest to catapult the film’s box office success. “The weak prosecution and swift bail make it clear this was planned to make Allu Arjun even more popular and ensure Pushpa 2 dominates the box office,” wrote Varma. He went on to thank the CM for keeping Telangana’s pride high through the film’s booming collections.
CM Reddy Responds to the Allegations
The Telangana CM dismissed claims of political involvement, stating, “The law is doing its job. Arjun is a movie star; he’s not winning wars for the country. The state has no part in this.”
Box Office Triumph Amid Controversy
Despite the drama, Pushpa 2 has shattered records, earning INR 1,300 crores globally within ten days. The film features Allu Arjun as Pushpa Raj, Rashmika Mandanna as Srivalli, and Fahadh Faasil as SP Bhanwar Singh Shekhawat.
