Scarlett Johansson in Talks to Join Robert Pattinson in The Batman Part II

Scarlett Johansson is reportedly close to joining the cast of The Batman Part II, signalling a major addition to Matt Reeves’ dark, grounded Gotham universe. According to industry reports, the actor is in final negotiations for a role in the highly anticipated sequel, although the studio has not revealed details about her potential character.

The film continues the story from 2022’s critically acclaimed The Batman, with Robert Pattinson returning as Bruce Wayne. The follow-up remains part of Matt Reeves’ standalone franchise, separate from the rebooted DC Universe overseen by James Gunn. Warner Bros. has set an October 1, 2027, release date, with production scheduled to begin in spring 2026.

Johansson’s involvement would bring a seasoned star with extensive experience in major franchises. She played Natasha Romanoff in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for more than a decade, beginning with Iron Man 2 in 2010 and continuing through multiple high-profile ensemble projects. She later headlined and executive-produced Black Widow, marking a historic milestone for her character.

Her acclaimed work outside the superhero genre includes Oscar-nominated turns in Marriage Story and Jojo Rabbit, alongside roles in independent films and major studio productions. The actor also continues to expand her career behind the camera, making her directorial debut with Eleanor the Great.

While fans are eager to see who Johansson might portray in Reeves’ gritty Gotham, Variety has reported that Zoë Kravitz, who played Selina Kyle in the original film, is not expected to return. This opens the door for the sequel to introduce new characters or reinterpret classic comic figures.

The first film featured a memorable ensemble that included Andy Serkis as Alfred and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot. Farrell later reprised the role in the HBO Max series The Penguin, which expands the universe beyond the main films.

Johansson’s recent work includes roles in Jurassic World Rebirth and The Phoenician Scheme. She also has a varied slate of upcoming projects, such as Ray Gunn, Paper Tiger, and filmmaker Mike Flanagan’s new take on The Exorcist.

Neither DC Studios, Warner Bros., nor Johansson’s representatives have commented publicly on the negotiations. However, if the deal closes, Johansson would join one of Hollywood’s most closely watched franchises at a key moment in its evolution.
