Police Warn Schools and Parents Amid Abduction Spike
Karachi has witnessed an alarming rise in child kidnappings, prompting the city’s police to release a comprehensive safety advisory. Targeting schools and seminaries (madrasas), the guidelines aim to address gaps in child safety and reduce the risks of abduction.
Enhanced Guidelines for Safety
Key measures include prohibiting children from leaving school premises with anyone other than their parents. The advisory also calls on parents to avoid sending children to school unaccompanied, stressing the importance of supervised travel to and from educational institutions.
CCTV Footage Reveals Disturbing Attempt in Korangi
This heightened concern comes in the wake of an attempted kidnapping in Korangi’s Bhatai Colony. CCTV footage shows a woman walking with a young girl when two men on a motorcycle approach.
One of the men gets off the bike and tries to abduct the girl, but her swift reaction and loud cries, coupled with the woman’s shouts for help, scare the kidnappers away. The assailants are seen fleeing the scene after the failed attempt.
Police Investigations Continue
Korangi police are actively investigating the incident, with SSP Korangi confirming efforts to identify and apprehend the culprits. Reports suggest the kidnappers even threatened the child, adding to the trauma of the incident.
Persistent Challenges for Law Enforcement
The incident has drawn attention to other unresolved kidnapping cases in Karachi. Among them is the tragic abduction and killing of Sarim in New Karachi and the mysterious disappearance of Aaliyan and Ali from Garden West. CCTV footage of the latter case shows the children in the company of two suspects on a motorcycle, yet police have made little progress in tracking them.
These incidents underscore the pressing need for increased vigilance, stricter enforcement, and collective efforts to safeguard children across Karachi.
