Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has taken a decisive step toward reinstating its UK flight operations, with a top-level delegation now stationed in Manchester to review final preparations. The visit is part of the airline’s strategic relaunch, scheduled to begin on August 14, 2025, marking the end of a long operational hiatus in the UK.
The two-member team includes Chief Operating Officer Khurram Mushtaq and General Manager Coordination Zulqarnain Mehdi, who are reviewing critical infrastructure, passenger services, and logistical arrangements for the airline’s first outbound flight from Pakistan to the UK in over two years.
The upcoming route will connect Islamabad directly with Manchester, with four weekly flights initially scheduled. PIA sources confirmed that this restart is the first phase of a broader plan to reintroduce services to London and Birmingham in the near future.
This mission follows a recent inspection in Karachi, where the CEO of PIA conducted a technical audit of a Boeing 777 designated for international operations. Accompanied by engineering and quality assurance staff, the leadership emphasized full compliance with international safety and service standards.
The return of direct air travel between Pakistan and the United Kingdom holds significant implications. With the UK accounting for over £4.7 billion in annual bilateral trade, the flight operations are expected to enhance tourism, business exchange, and diaspora engagement.
Additionally, travel agents and members of the Pakistani-British community have welcomed the move, anticipating smoother connectivity ahead of Eid celebrations and summer travel surges.
