In a recent promotional event for her upcoming film Love Guru, acclaimed Pakistani actress Mahira Khan voiced a strong call to action for the country’s leadership—support the film industry with tangible policies and subsidies.
Reflecting on Regional Barriers
Khan, who garnered international acclaim after her Bollywood debut in Raees, spoke candidly about the barriers faced by Pakistani artists abroad, particularly the reinstated ban in India. “There’s a whole world [to work] out there, but there’s also a whole world here,” she said. “And we need to just work hard at it.”
Government’s Role Cannot Be Overlooked
Her remarks emphasized the importance of domestic policy in nurturing cultural sectors. “You have to give us subsidies—it is direly needed at this time,” she urged, when her co-actor Humayun Saeed pointed out that some initiatives had already begun.
Saeed added that early-stage reforms were encouraging, but systemic and ongoing support is crucial if the industry is to thrive and compete with regional players.
Film Industry’s Next Big Bet: ‘Love Guru’
Touted as the “biggest entertainer of the year,” Love Guru is a romantic drama helmed by celebrated director Nadeem Baig and written by Vasay Chaudhry. It is co-produced by Salman Iqbal Films, ARY Films, and Six Sigma Plus.
The ensemble cast includes Ramsha Khan, Ahmed Ali Butt, Sohai Ali Abro, Mira Sethi, and more, alongside veteran actors like Javed Sheikh and Marina Khan. The film is set to release on Eid-ul-Adha 2025, aiming to draw audiences back to cinemas post-Ramzan season.
With high expectations and a message of unity within the creative community, Love Guru arrives not only as a film but as a symbol of what’s possible when artistry meets policy.
