Mobile internet services in Karachi have been disrupted since last night, triggering widespread inconvenience for residents. The suspension reportedly stems from security concerns, with affected areas facing significant challenges in maintaining online connectivity.

Ministry of Interior Addresses the Issue

According to the Ministry of Interior, the internet suspension is confined to high-risk areas. A spokesperson assured the public that the rest of the country’s internet and mobile services remain unaffected. Despite the clarification, Karachiites continue to face difficulties, especially as online-dependent businesses and students bear the brunt of the outage.

Nationwide Security Heightened Ahead of PTI Protests

In anticipation of PTI demonstrations, Islamabad and Rawalpindi have seen rigorous security measures. Authorities have sealed 33 entry points, including Rawat T-Chowk, Faizabad, and IJP Road, with containers blocking key routes. Traffic disruptions have been reported, particularly around the Faizabad Flyover and Kacheri Chowk, where movement is limited to one-way traffic.

Diplomatic Priorities Amidst Domestic Unrest

Compounding the situation, Islamabad is preparing for the arrival of an 80-member Belarusian delegation, including its president. Scheduled from November 24-27, the visit adds pressure on security forces already managing potential domestic unrest. The Belarusian President’s arrival on November 25 has necessitated tighter security protocols.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, following orders from the Islamabad High Court, reached out to PTI leadership, stressing that sit-ins or rallies cannot be permitted under the current circumstances. The minister also highlighted the government’s obligation to ensure the safety of international delegations, underscoring the critical nature of maintaining public order.
