New research from Newcastle University reveals that as little as 10 minutes of daily exercise can trigger significant health benefits, including slowing the progression of bowel cancer and repairing DNA damage.

The study examined 30 overweight or obese but otherwise healthy participants, analyzing blood samples before and after a short exercise session lasting 10 to 12 minutes. Researchers then exposed bowel cancer cells to these blood samples to assess molecular effects.

Results showed that even brief bouts of intense physical activity can rapidly increase levels of 13 different proteins in the blood. These proteins are associated with reducing inflammation, improving blood vessel function, and enhancing metabolism, suggesting that even a short workout may provide protective benefits at the cellular level.

While the precise mechanisms remain under investigation, the findings highlight that short, intense exercise sessions can have meaningful health impacts, potentially reducing cancer progression and supporting overall well-being.
