Flights to Muscat Begin January 10, 2025
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that flights from Gwadar to Muscat would commence on January 10, 2025, signaling a new era of connectivity and economic growth for the region. This announcement was made during a high-level meeting to discuss the operations of the New Gwadar International Airport.
Regional and International Connectivity
Plans are underway to expand the airport’s operations to include domestic and international flights from airlines in Pakistan, China, Oman, and the UAE. The new airport is set to become a vital transit hub, connecting Gwadar to major economic centers.
A Landmark in Pakistan-China Relations
Acknowledging China’s contribution, the Prime Minister highlighted the state-of-the-art facilities at the airport as a testament to the strong Pakistan-China friendship. The New Gwadar International Airport is the largest in the country by area, capable of handling A-380 aircraft, and is expected to accommodate 400,000 passengers annually.
Improved Infrastructure and Security
To support the airport’s operations, the Prime Minister directed the enhancement of road connectivity, especially with neighboring provinces. Additionally, foolproof security measures are being implemented to ensure safe and efficient operations.
Operational Readiness and Facilities
The airport is already equipped with an Aerodrome Certificate, and relevant authorities such as Pakistan Customs, Anti-Narcotics Force, and Federal Investigation Agency are fully operational. Plans include facilities for cargo handling, cold storage, warehouses, and passenger amenities such as hotels and shopping malls.
Boost to Regional Trade and Tourism
With the first phase of the East-Bay Expressway completed, efforts are ongoing to further integrate Gwadar into the national transportation network. This development is expected to stimulate regional trade, tourism, and investment opportunities.
