FG Polo secured the championship of the 49th EcoStar Aibak Polo Cup, defeating Diamond Paints 7½-4 in a thrilling final at the historic Lahore Polo Club on Saturday, according to 24NewsHD TV.
The final, held during the vibrant Basant festival, drew a large crowd of polo enthusiasts eager to witness one of Pakistan’s most prestigious polo titles.
FG Polo displayed a dominant all-round performance, highlighted by exceptional teamwork and precise goal-scoring. Raja Mikayial Sami led the charge with four goals, while Marcos Rivarola contributed a hat-trick to secure the victory. The team also enjoyed a half-goal handicap advantage.
Diamond Paints offered a spirited challenge but fell short. Lao Abelenda scored three goals, and Mohammad Ali Malik added one for the runners-up.
At the prize distribution ceremony, Marcos Rivarola was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) and awarded a 65-inch QLED TV for his decisive performance. Raja Mikayial Sami received the Top Scorer award along with a 55-inch QLED TV. The Best Playing Pony award went to Mustaza, owned by Mian Abbas Mukhtar, in recognition of the mare’s agility and endurance.
The ceremony was graced by Ms. Natalie A. Baker, Deputy Chief of Mission at the US Embassy, who served as chief guest. “Watching such high-quality polo amid the vibrant Basant celebrations and pleasant Lahore weather has been a truly exhilarating experience,” she said.
Also in attendance were DWP Group Director Taha Muhammad Naseem, Lahore Polo Club executive members Mohammad Nasir and Raja Amir, Secretary Maj Amjad Ghafoor, and EcoStar Marketing Head Shoaib Younas, alongside players, families, and spectators.
Earlier in the day, BN Polo claimed the subsidiary final, narrowly defeating SQ Seagold 8–6, setting the stage for an exciting day of competitive polo action.
