Bilawal Bhutto: Justice Mansoor Ali Shah to Be the Next Chief Justice of Pakistan

In an exclusive conversation with ARY News, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari shared that Justice Mansoor Ali Shah is set to become the next Chief Justice of Pakistan. Bilawal spoke highly of both the current and incoming Chief Justices, emphasizing their respected roles in the country’s judicial system.

Bilawal expressed concerns over the slow pace of Pakistan’s justice system, recalling his family’s 50-year wait for a verdict in the Zulfikar Bhutto murder case. He urged the need for reforming the system to provide justice more efficiently.

He also discussed the constitutional amendments under consideration, advocating for a consensus-driven approach. Bilawal stressed that constitutional changes should not be made hastily, noting that many past amendments either lost relevance or were overturned. “This is not an ordinary constitutional amendment,” he cautioned.

In praising Justice Qazi Faez Isa, Bilawal highlighted his decision to reduce his own powers, showcasing respect for the Parliament’s Practice and Procedure Bill and offering a model for how the judiciary can work collaboratively with the legislature.

On the topic of military courts for civilians, Bilawal reiterated the PPP’s opposition but mentioned that he remains open to revisiting the issue. He acknowledged the suggestion to try civilians involved in attacks on military installations in military courts but emphasized the need for thorough discussions before making a final decision.

Bilawal also voiced his agreement with Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl’s (JUI-F) concerns about Article 8 of the Constitution, proposing that any amendments be postponed until broader consensus is reached.
