Air Karachi Applies for Aviation License to Begin Domestic Operations

New Airline ‘Air Karachi’ Seeks Civil Aviation Authority’s Approval

A new privately owned airline, Air Karachi, is on the verge of entering Pakistan’s aviation market. The airline has formally submitted its application to the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority (PCAA) for a Regular Public Transport (RPT) license to operate domestic flights.

According to PCAA sources, the application is under review, and the final decision will depend on federal government approval.

Investment and Business Leadership in Air Karachi

The airline is backed by Karachi’s business community, which has played a crucial role in financing the project. Business leader Hanif Gohar has announced that Air Karachi is launching with an investment of Rs. 5 billion, with each shareholder contributing Rs. 50 million.

Some of Pakistan’s top investors and industrialists are part of this ambitious initiative, including:
Aqeel Karim Dhedhi
Arif Habib
SM Tanveer
Bashir Jan Muhammad
Khalid Tawab
Zubair Tufail
Hamza Tabani

Operational Plans and Fleet Details

To ensure a strong operational start, Air Karachi has:

  • Leased three aircraft for its initial phase.
  • Appointed Retired Air Vice Marshal Imran as the CEO to oversee operations.
  • Registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) to meet regulatory requirements.

Competition in the Domestic Airline Market

Pakistan’s aviation sector is witnessing significant growth, with multiple new players entering the market. Last year, Jet Green, Q Airways, and Go Green Air applied for licenses to begin operations. Other airlines, including Air Indus, Q Aviation, and Liberty Air, have also shown interest in launching or resuming flights.

The PCAA has acknowledged the surge in airline applications, stating that increased competition will improve connectivity, affordability, and overall service quality for domestic travelers.
