Pakistan Fish Exports Surge 75% as Seafood Shipments Rise

Pakistan’s fish and seafood exports have recorded strong growth during the first quarter of fiscal year 2026-27, with export earnings reaching $125.4 million.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said seafood exports increased from $93.28 million during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.

The latest figures show a significant improvement in Pakistan’s seafood export performance. The increase in earnings has also been accompanied by a substantial rise in the volume of fish and other seafood shipped to international markets.

Seafood export volumes reached 61,679 metric tons during the first quarter of FY2026-27, compared with 43,995 metric tons during the same period of FY2025-26.

Three years earlier, Pakistan exported 35,294 metric tons of seafood in the first quarter of FY2024-25. The latest volume therefore represents a 74.8 percent increase compared with the level recorded three years ago.

The growth highlights the expanding role of Pakistan’s fisheries and seafood sector in the country’s export economy. Higher shipment volumes have provided support to export earnings and increased the sector’s contribution to foreign exchange generation.

The seafood industry is an important part of Pakistan’s maritime economy, particularly for coastal communities and businesses involved in fishing, processing, transportation and international trade.

The rise in exports also points to increasing activity across the seafood supply chain. A larger export volume can create opportunities for fishermen, processors, exporters and other businesses connected to the industry.

Pakistan has a long coastline and access to rich marine resources, giving the country significant potential in the international seafood market. However, maintaining export growth requires consistent quality standards, efficient processing facilities and reliable supply chains.

The latest figures indicate that seafood exports have gained considerable momentum over the three-year period. Both the quantity of seafood exported and the value generated from those exports have moved upward.

The increase in export earnings from $93.28 million to $125.4 million also demonstrates the financial importance of the sector. Stronger seafood exports can help Pakistan diversify its export base beyond traditional products.

For the maritime sector, continued growth in fish and seafood exports could provide additional opportunities for investment and employment. Improvements in infrastructure, cold-storage facilities and processing capacity could further support exporters seeking access to international markets.

The latest data shared by the Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs therefore reflects a notable improvement in Pakistan’s seafood export performance.

With export volumes reaching 61,679 metric tons in the first quarter of FY2026-27, the sector has recorded substantial growth compared with previous years, while export earnings have also increased to $125.4 million.
