The dates for the 2026 Nobel Prize announcements have been announced, with this year’s awards set to recognize outstanding contributions across medicine, science, literature, peace and economics.
The announcement schedule will begin on October 5 with the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine. The remaining awards will be revealed throughout the following week, bringing global attention to individuals and organizations recognized for significant achievements.
The 2026 Nobel Prize announcement period will conclude on October 12 with the Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel, commonly referred to as the Nobel Prize in Economics.
The annual announcements attract widespread international attention as researchers, writers, organizations and other individuals wait to learn who has been selected for one of the world’s most prominent awards.
The Nobel Prizes cover several major fields, including Physiology or Medicine, Physics, Chemistry, Literature and Peace. The economics award is announced separately but is traditionally included in the annual Nobel schedule.
Each award recognizes contributions considered to have had significant importance within its respective field. Nobel laureates receive international recognition along with a medal, diploma and financial award.
For 2026, the cash prize associated with each Nobel award has been increased to 12 million Swedish kronor. The amount is approximately $1.21 million, depending on currency exchange rates.
The increased prize amount adds a financial component to the global recognition received by the laureates, although the Nobel awards remain primarily associated with achievements that have had a significant impact on science, culture, literature, peace or economic research.
The first announcement on October 5 will focus on Physiology or Medicine. Further announcements will follow for the scientific and cultural categories before the Nobel Peace Prize and economics award bring the announcement period to a close.
The Nobel Peace Prize is traditionally one of the most closely followed announcements because it recognizes efforts or contributions related to peace and international cooperation. The Literature Prize also receives significant global attention because of its recognition of an individual’s body of literary work.
The science awards highlight developments in research and discovery, with the Physics and Chemistry prizes recognizing contributions that have advanced understanding of the natural world.
The Nobel announcement week is followed by formal award ceremonies later in the year, when the laureates receive their medals, diplomas and prize money.
The 2026 Nobel schedule is therefore expected to generate international interest from October 5 through October 12, as the recipients across the different categories are officially revealed.
