HEC Establishes Nationwide Committee to Monitor Universities Across Pakistan

The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has announced the formation of a nationwide committee to monitor and evaluate the implementation of its policies, programs, and development projects in universities and higher education institutions across the country.

According to an official notification issued by the HEC Coordination Division on March 5, the newly established committee will oversee how higher education initiatives are being implemented and ensure that institutions follow the standards set by the commission.

The committee will include representatives from the federal government as well as all provinces, along with members from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. This inclusive representation aims to strengthen coordination between the federation and regional authorities involved in higher education management.

Under the notification, Lt. Gen. (retd) Moazzam Ejaz, who serves as the rector of the National University of Technology in Islamabad, has been appointed as the convener for the federal component of the committee. His role will involve leading oversight efforts at the national level and coordinating with representatives from different regions.

The formation of this monitoring committee reflects the commission’s broader objective to improve governance and accountability within the higher education sector. By regularly reviewing policies and initiatives, the HEC aims to ensure that universities effectively implement educational reforms and development programs.

Officials believe that stronger monitoring mechanisms will help identify gaps in policy implementation and enable timely corrective actions. The committee will review ongoing projects, assess their progress, and provide recommendations to improve efficiency within universities.

Higher education institutions across Pakistan play a critical role in academic research, professional training, and national development. Ensuring that HEC policies are consistently applied across universities is considered essential for maintaining quality education standards.

The committee’s work will also support collaboration between federal and provincial authorities responsible for managing universities. By bringing representatives from different regions together, the HEC hopes to enhance coordination and create a more unified approach to higher education governance.

The initiative marks another step toward strengthening oversight and transparency in the higher education sector while ensuring that universities across Pakistan align with national education policies and strategic goals.
