Punjab Launches Rs20 Eco-Friendly Electric Bus Service in Underserved Districts

A Major Step Towards Green, Affordable Public Transport

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has unveiled a transformative transport initiative, announcing the rollout of modern electric buses across several remote districts. The program aims to make travel both comfortable and affordable, with fares set at just Rs20.

State-of-the-Art Fleet From China

A shipment of 100 air-conditioned, Wi-Fi-enabled electric buses is already en route from Yantai, China, to Pakistan. These vehicles feature:

  • Fully automated ticketing systems for ease of use
  • Accessibility options for persons with special needs
  • Eco-friendly operations to reduce the environmental footprint

Targeted Rollout for Underserved Areas

In its first phase, the service will focus on districts that have long been deprived of dependable public transport, including:

  • Mianwali
  • Okara
  • Nankana Sahib
  • Muzaffargarh
  • Vehari
  • Pakpattan
  • Dera Ghazi Khan

Government’s Commitment to Inclusive Mobility

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that the Punjab government’s mission is to ensure every citizen — especially in rural and underserved communities — can access safe, reliable, and modern transportation.

Complementary Youth Initiatives

In parallel, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the distribution of 100,000 laptops to high-achieving students nationwide, underscoring the government’s focus on both technological advancement and education.
