Max to Stream Record-Breaking ‘Minecraft Movie’ in June, Sequel Already in the Works

Following a monumental box office run, the widely successful Minecraft Movie will soon be accessible to home audiences. The film will premiere on Max on June 20, offering fans a second chance to enjoy the cinematic take on one of the world’s most played video games. A special TV airing on HBO is also scheduled for June 21 at 8 PM EST.

Jared Hess, the director known for his quirky storytelling style, helmed the film adaptation, which earned $951 million globally. This remarkable figure places it just behind The Super Mario Bros. Movie in the ranking of top-grossing video game-based films.

Given its overwhelming success, Warner Bros. Discovery and Legendary have reportedly begun early development on a sequel. Insiders suggest that development talks are progressing quickly, and the project may enter pre-production later this year.

Hess has publicly shown interest in returning for the second installment. “We loved making this film. Minecraft has so much depth, and we’ve only scratched the surface,” he commented during a promotional interview.

One of the movie’s two post-credit scenes hints at an expanded narrative. A new female character briefly appears, though her identity and casting details remain undisclosed. This short teaser has already sparked speculation across social media platforms.

The film will also launch on Blu-ray, with a Walmart-exclusive Collector’s Crafting Table Edition designed to appeal to fans of the game. The set includes themed packaging that unfolds into a decorative Minecraft setting.

Streaming on Max will make the movie widely accessible for those who missed its theatrical run or want to rewatch it. With a sequel on the horizon, fans are eager to see how the pixelated world will evolve in future chapters.
