Ishaq Dar Embarks on Strategic Diplomatic Mission to China

Foreign Minister to Discuss Regional Peace, Trade & Security

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has departed for a three-day official visit to China, set to take place from May 19 to May 21, at the invitation of his Chinese counterpart, Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

This high-level visit comes shortly after Pakistan reached a ceasefire agreement with India, adding greater relevance to Dar’s diplomatic mission in Beijing.

Accompanying Dar is Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, indicating the multifaceted nature of the talks expected during this visit.

Agenda Includes Bilateral Relations and Trilateral Engagement

According to the Foreign Office, the two countries will conduct a comprehensive review of bilateral cooperation, including economic ties, infrastructure projects under CPEC, and regional connectivity.

The visit also features a trilateral meeting between China, Pakistan, and Afghanistan, to be held on May 20, where Afghanistan’s interim Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi will join the discussions.

“The discussions will focus on regional peace, mutual security cooperation, and trade expansion,” diplomatic sources said.

First Official China Visit Since Indo-Pak Ceasefire

This is Dar’s first visit to China since tensions flared between India and Pakistan earlier this month. Sources say both sides are expected to exchange views on the evolving security architecture in South Asia and the broader implications for regional diplomacy.

Dar will also meet with Chinese Premier Li Qiang during his stay, where issues such as investment in Pakistan’s energy and manufacturing sectors are likely to be discussed.

Reinforcing Strategic Partnership

This trip is part of a broader framework of high-level exchanges aimed at reinforcing the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership. Observers say it also reaffirms Islamabad’s intent to align closely with Beijing amidst shifting regional dynamics.
