The Sindh government has revealed January 11, 2025, as the launch date for the first segment of the Malir Expressway, a state-of-the-art roadway that promises to transform Karachi’s commuting experience. The 9.1 km section from Korangi Causeway to Shah Faisal represents a major step forward in infrastructure development.
Highlights of the Malir Expressway
- Public-Private Partnership Model: This 40 km expressway is the largest PPP project in Sindh.
- Strategic Connectivity: It links DHA’s Korangi Creek Avenue to the M-9 Motorway near Kathore.
- Modern Infrastructure: Features include a three-lane dual carriageway with access-controlled design and dedicated interchanges.
Enhancements Underway
- Flyover from Korangi: Completion expected within two months.
- Encroachment Removal: Quaidabad Interchange cleared for smoother traffic flow.
- Improved Safety: Traffic patrols, fire brigades, and Rescue 1122 ambulances will ensure traveler safety.
Traffic and Toll Details
Tolls will range from Rs100 for light vehicles to Rs200 for heavy ones. The stretch from Shah Faisal Interchange to Shah Faisal Colony Bridge is declared a no-parking zone, with motorcycles and rickshaws restricted.
